How It Is Going So Far

Classes have been going on for about 4 weeks now, and I feel that I am starting to get used to the new routine that school and all the subjects bring, but today I am going to be talking specifically about how I feel my english classes have been going.

So far, the activities that I feel I have learnt most from are the group discussions where the whole class sat around a long table and had a free discussion. Through this, I have learnt about the opinions and personalities of my classmates and how they view the subjects and topics we have talked about. One example would be the time where we discussed about people's opinions on a piece of text that was read together. Through this exercise, I could see my classmate's thoughts of the particular piece, and though that, analyze their writing styles and the genre of writing they are most passionate about. I was surprised by the diversity of the styles of writing of my classmates, as almost everybody had their unique interests and styles.

Another area that I enjoy in english class is the blogging activities that we are doing at the moment. The reason I am enjoying this is because we get to share our writing with the world, receive comments from readers, and through this improve my writing technique taking all their feedback into account. Even though this is still work in progress, I am hopeful that through these activities, our writing standards will improve and our vocabulary bank will grow.

Even so, there are of course areas that I wish could improve in class. One of which would be chances to visit the library as a class and be able to just read and learn from the books available. I feel this would really enhance the learning experience during english classes!

  1. Hi Marius,

I definitely understand where you are coming from when you talked about looking at other's opinions. It is a habit which I enjoy, for it allows me to sit back and understand the people around me. Their thoughts, as well as their analytic and comprehension skills.

I also agree with you on the fact that going to the library as a class would definitely enhance our learning experience here at UWCSEA, for what's writing without reading?
